So today being Friday, we went out to dinner with a rather larger group than usual (not that that’s remotely relevant). I ordered the Weisswurst. Then she (that would be the waitress) asked “Soup or salad?” I decided on the soup. The response, not surprisingly, was “Perfect” which sort of implied that the soup was a better choice than the salad — at least, in her opinion.
Of course, she asked the person across the table from me the same question: “Soup or salad?” He chose the salad. Her response?
“Perfect.”
So apparently the soup is a better choice than the salad AND the salad is a better choice than the soup.
George Orwell died over sixty years ago but apparently doublethink is still going strong.
